Gaia Two...and the quest for Human Space Travel

Fifty years in, and Humans have managed to project nothing more into Outer Space than our own limitations.
As would be expected from such small minded expectations, we've barely scratched the surface.
And, to top it all off, Earth is now surrounded by Space based weapons...all pointed this way.
Space is closed to all but those involved with today's "Rocketeers".
This is primarily because we still follow the lead set by "The Rocketeers".
"The Rocketeers" got their start at Peenemunde, led by Werner Von Braun, supporting Hitler's madness, building better and better rockets for the sole purpose of killing innocent people.
Von Braun himself reached the end bemoaning his willingness to rain death upon others in his compulsive quest to build the ultimate rocket.
He couldn't, or wouldn't, allow himself to see the forest for the trees until faced with his own mortality.
As everyone knows, the US 'captured' Von Braun and many of his cronies following WWII, and instated the Space Program based upon his developments.
Nothing has changed.
The plans dreamed and drawn by the earliest Pioneers are still arriving at the top of NASA's 'to do' list...fifty years in...and counting.
OK, I say, "Nothing has changed."
You may well say, "What about the New Space Race?"
To that I say, "It's nothing more than a bunch of dilettante "Rocketeers" investing in the potential for cheaper TelecomSat launches.
Look at who's involved...all TeleCom Bazillionaires, playing rockets while planning their future schemes for web dominance.
The "Space Tourism" aspect is totally bogus.
If you recall, NASA got the public interested by seating Human test subjects atop their missiles, and launching the crazy m'fers into space.
Today's dilettante "Rocketeers" are simply following NASA's lead.
What's wrong with recycling a little 'spin' among friends?
The public wants daredevil spacefarers, give 'em what they want.
Develop the newer, cheaper, TelecomSat launch capabilities by plastering your corporate logo all over the test models and claim to be preparing for weekend hotel stays off the coast of Venus.
It's worked for NASA since day one.
Unless we smarten up, it'll work all over again, and again.
By smarten up, I mean realize that the reason you believe rockets are needed to reach Outer Space is because you've never been given the opportunity to consider the options.
Gaia Two will "Fall into Space".
And...return with no blazing Tin Can effect.
I can build, test, and launch this vehicle into near space for less money than is being spent right now on legal fees preparing the rules and regulations for those participating in the New Space Race.
Unfortunately, my plan is already against the law.
So, once again, "The Rocketeers" appear to have won the day with their weapons* disguised as exploratory vehicles.
Outer Space is, after all, their world.
If you don't believe me, try to get there without them.
*I say that with web dominance as Virgin's ultimate goal, SpaceShipTwo becomes a weapon in said battle...don'tcha think?

GAIA TWO HOW TO
The tensegrital monocoque spacecraft Gaia Two presents an alternative means of Human Space Exploration.
The test vehicle can be constructed, launched to the 'edge-of-near-space', and recovered using existing technologies.
Gaia Two will be raised to 150,000' by balloon and dropped.
She will accelerate to terminal velocity while falling into the much denser atmosphere of 80,000'.
At this point, using the long recognized, but never properly utilized 'skip-off the atmosphere' method, Gaia Two throbs with kinetic energy stored from the drop.
This force, combined with an afterburst of highly compressed air, will enable Gaia Two to escape Earth's gravity.
The compressed air propulsion will establish and maintain Gaia Two's thrust, as she soars outward, away from Earth's center, until the vehicle reaches the currently accepted 'edge-of-near-space' altitude of 100K.
Gaia Two will 'Fall into Space'.
NOTE...in early tests all maneuvers are accomplished via remote radio control...triggering onboard ballast, gyros, and bursts of air to control orientation.
Recovery is accomplished by simply turning the vehicle around and allowing her to drop as before.
During re-entry, as friction in the lower atmosphere starts to generate dangerous heat, the vehicle will begin a series of soar and drop maneuvers...skipping off lightly, stalling, and resuming the drop...each upward swoop will serve to cool and slow the re-entry until the vehicle is dropping under control like any aerodynamic vehicle preparing to land.
At this point, Gaia two begins a long glide to the surface of the ocean, where she will slice to a smooth stop, and float safely until the recovery vessel is on scene.
After accomplishing this feat, as our abilities to function in Space progress, Gaia Two will continue to adapt and evolve, providing Humanity with the only vehicle ever needed in our endless quest for expansion.

Gaia Two is the solution to Humanity’s biggest problem.
There are way too many of us to sustain our current relationship with Planet Earth.
An overwhelming sense that we have overdone almost everything in the quest to remove misery and drudgery from our lives is creeping into our very being.
The Symbiosis is seriously out of kilter.
This scenario is beginning to rule our collective psyche with constant reminders that we face the possibility of destroying our own niche.
Worse, we are developing an ever increasing awareness that there is no more “Westward-Ho the Wagons”.
Expanding outward, off Planet Earth, into the Final Frontier is the option we’ve left for ourselves.
Unfortunately, until the view out becomes less hostile than the view in, we go nowhere.
It's not in our Nature.
Right now, there is absolutely zero indication of anyplace suitable out there.
And, we will never have the means to explore freely because The Rocketeers have fortified Earth’s surroundings with weaponry...all aimed this way.
We are trapped on Earth by The Rocketeers, and their ‘our way, or no way’ attitude regarding exploration of Outer Space.
Nobody goes anywhere without ascending the High Ground and passing through The Rocketeers’ checkpoints...“Where are your papers?”
This dims one of Humanity’s most enduring dreams, and erodes the Pioneering Spirit from our very souls.
Even if we should discover a likely second home, the chances of ever leaving here and traveling there appear to be slim and none.
Welcome to...‘The Expansion Crisis’...Humanity’s biggest problem.
Without our Sense of Expansiveness, we are lost.
Humans are Pioneering Creatures.
If we weren’t, none of this would be necessary.
There would be no us to mess things up.
Which brings us back to Gaia Two.
This simple vehicle solves the age old Space Travel problems of escape and re-entry in one fell swoop, opening the Final Frontier, and restoring expansiveness to the realm of possibility.
The problem of the first fifty miles and the last fifty miles of any Space Voyage being the most dangerous is solved.
Gaia Two will Fall into Space, co-operating with Gravity and ignoring Escape Velocity.
When the voyage is over, Gaia Two returns to Earth with no blazing re-entry, gliding gently to a smooth landing on water.
From the first Near Space experiments, to the deepest reaches of Humanity’s grasp, Gaia Two will evolve to suit our needs.
Whatever we are capable of doing in Space, wherever we are capable of going, Gaia Two will adapt to the task, providing safe, reliable transport.
But, it’s not as simple as just packing up and heading off to the next habitable planet, even if there is one.
I can easily get us off and back home again.
It’s a piece of cake, if we really want to venture beyond Earth’s confines.
Unfortunately, the way things are going, early Deep Space explorers are very likely to return home to an Earth devoid of Humanity...not devoid of Humans, but of Humanity.
There’s work to be done right here before we start dragging our mess out there.
For now, let’s all take a deep breath and relax a little, knowing that exploration and expansion are once again possible.
Let it sink in, have your self a Humangasm, feel good about things, and experience living with newfound hope and possibility filling your hearts and minds.
Feels better, eh?
Gaia Two is ready whenever we are.
The Rocketeers will jump all over the bandwagon as soon as they catch on.

the "FINAL FRONTIER CRISIS"
From the Serenity of the Shoreline to the deepest reaches of Outer Space...
Gaia Two flies in the face of conventional wisdom, co-operating with natural forces.
She will "Fall into Space" with no rocket engine, and return gently with no blazing burn-in.
This vehicle will Brighten the Horizon for all, restore a sense of expansiveness to our collective psyche, and enable us to finally realize mankind's enduring dream of exploring beyond Earth's confines.
That is what's wrong.
Everyone feels crowded, and under enormous pressure.
Nobody likes the feeling.
We have overprocreated, overused, and overdone just about everything on the way to getting ourselves into one hell of a mess.
Battles over shrinking habitats, diminishing resources, and who gains control over whatever comes next will go on well into the foreseeable future.
Plus, The Final Frontier is CLOSED.
There is no more "Westward Ho the Wagons".
Outward is the only way.
Unfortunately, between us and Outer Space lies The High Ground.
Near Space is fortified like Pork Chop Hill.
We are trapped here.
Nobody gets off this rock without permission.
While this sensation is not yet widely discussed, it's clearly there, and growing in direct response to our level of awareness.
Remember, all the Space Weaponry is aimed this way.
Add that to your level of awareness.
Give it an instant to sink in.
Picture the orbiting CLOSED sign rising alongside the Moon.
Feel it?
There's no place left for us to grow...and we've made a mess of things here.
Even if you've never considered this possibility before, it's there now.
Without our Sense of Expansiveness, we are lost.

The following text is from my recent email to Steve Landeene, Executive Director, SpacePort America, New Mexico.
Whitehorn is Will Whitehorn, President of Virgin Galactic (Branson's Space Tourism Venture), and a driving force behind the creation of SpacePort America.
Will and I have corresponded since 1999.
Steve asked for my plans.
Hi Steve,
My intention is to prove that Gaia Two will perform as advertised...lifted to 150,000' by balloon, the vehicle 'Falls into Space' by dropping to 80,000' and soaring off to Space, propelled by compressed air.
There is absolutely no reason why this vehicle cannot reach the current 100Kilometer 'edge of near space' elevation using this method.
After that, Escape Velocity is not an absolute.
It only applies to non-aerodynamic cylinders carrying tons of fuel.
Like an arrow fired straight up...no more oomph, no more elevation.
As long as the vehicle remains stable (via moveable ballast and gyroscopic balance), and propulsion continues to overcome gravity, she will continue on course and reach the desired height...even if said height is orbital, or beyond...
The first flight will be non-manned, radio controlled...the lift balloon can serve as a booster for signals from Earth.
After reaching the 100K elevation, she will return gently.
I see a large lake near the SpacePort which can serve as a landing area.
The basic premise is that Gaia Two solves the ongoing launch and re-entry problems which every effort has faced thus far.
Rocketeering is a loser long range...too limited...and we have no plasma/ion/nuke etc. sources available at this time.
People need hope now, not in the next lifetime.
My Father worked on early re-entry projects for AVCO.
The first time I saw a model nose cone being blasted by flame to test ablation, it became my mission to solve the re-entry problem...c. 1959.
Gaia Two has evolved from this mission.
I always hated the 'not in our lifetimes' outlook.
While the thinking was noble for the earliest pioneers, it has gone another lifetime with that way of thinking...and the big guys are still milking plans that have been on the drawing boards since those earliest pioneers.
The current situation is interesting, but leads nowhere.
All the investment in the world isn't going to change anything for a long time.
It takes a fresh outlook.
This outlook will provide financing for Gaia Two if the public is aware that such an option exists.
This will lead to further development of the concept via an upswell of interest from the man on the street.
Let's face it...nobody cares about Virgin Galactic right now...more hype just drags the whole idea down...is Branson offering free CDs yet?
If so, tell him to put them in recycled paper sleeves...not Petro Chem Jewel Cases.
Let's show 'em something that blows their minds...and expands possibilities...for very little money...and tons of free publicity RE the iconoclastic American Space Guy.
I can take people there without the vehicle.
When it appears, Folks will be prepared for a brighter future...not a cocktail party honoring celebs in space.
There is so much more that it will become boring quickly via email...but it's all doable for less than the lawyers are collecting while wrangling over the rules and regs.
You can't build a SpacePort without SpaceCraft...and none of the current participants can do more than hope to develop cheaper telecomsat launch capabiltites...which is exactly why all the participants are Telecom Bazillionaires.
If you want to see Humans launched from NM, in our lifetimes (I'm 61), this is the way to go.
Ask Whitehorn...somewhere in his worried heart he knows that I am right...if he's really in favor of all the EcoHype being pitched by the Boss, he knows Virgin Galactic is on hold for reasons other than Rutan's safety concerns.

After re-reading the above, I figured it serves as a pretty good summary of how Gaia Two works, so here it is for all to see.

Amidst all the recent Global Confusion, Man-Made, or Anthropogenic CO2 is suddenly touted as our biggest threat.
How many of us even knew what ACO2 was a few months ago?
Now, it’s viewed as a potential end game for Humanity.
Here’s a flash...ACO2 is us.
Humanity...what a gas, eh?
Every breath exhaled by every single Human who has ever walked the face of the planet produces ACO2.
The warnings of dangerous ACO2 levels aren’t from Humans breathing too much.
It’s the result of Petro Chem production.
Guess who produces Petro Chems?
It’s a little over a millennium since the first oil well went into production.
In the second half of the millennium we became totally dependent upon Petro Chem production, and doubled our population.
The two go hand in hand.
It's a done deal.
Our presence has altered Earth’s Environment.
We’ve made our mark.
Now, suddenly, we’re all running around in a panic because our mark is dark and ugly.
After all this time, pretending that 'progress' was more important than all that foolish Tree Hugger nonsense, we find ourselves up against the wall, acting surprised to be in such a mess, looking to those who made the mess for a way out.
DUH!!!
Our current situation began when the first of our ancestors ventured out of the cave and pissed along his trail.
For the longest time, we didn't have the ability to mark and establish our presence over anything more than our immediate surroundings.
But, we’ve always done as much marking as possible.
From sticks and stones to "The Big One".
From the dramatically firelit Caves of Altamira to the mindlessly ubiquitous flicker of the world wide web, as our territory widened, and Humans proliferated, our mark became exponentially greater, at unfathomable speed.
Then, it was now.
Oooops!
what to do...what to do...the sky is falling...what to do...?
Here’s a good place to start...
“not in our lifetimes”...a noble thought process/belief/attitude...
expressed by guys who had grown up during the Great Depression, fought in WWII, came home, made babies, and went to work creating a better world for those babies, “not in our lifetimes" was a wistful acceptance of harsh reality, with the most positive, forward thinking approach possible generously applied...period!
The feeling was of developing a brighter future.
If it took the rest of their lives to get the ball rolling, OK.
The grandbabies will reap the rewards.
“We’ll teach everything we know to our offspring, provide as much as possible, encourage them in the right direction, and our noble beliefitude will become legacy.”
This is what gave the “not in our lifetimers” the oomph to carry on.
This plan went seriously awry in the decade from 1957-1967.
There was just too muckin’ futch happening for young people to ignore the alternatives in favor of following the projected path.
Large numbers of the ‘not in our lifetimers’ found themselves on the outside looking in on what appeared to be the early stages of their babies turning the legacy into Sodom and Gomorrah with cars, sex, drugs, and rock and roll.
The kids were simply expediting the process...skipping a generation in the reward game.
Looking forward for the benefit of others wasn’t even on the radar of those immersed in the decade long revel.
They had become one with it all.
Everything’s gonna be alright.
Then it was now!

My intention is to prove that Gaia Two will perform as advertised...lifted to 150,000' by balloon, the vehicle 'Falls into Space' by dropping to 80,000' and soaring off to Space, propelled by compressed air.
There is absolutely no reason why this vehicle cannot reach the current 100Kilometer 'edge of near space' elevation using this method.
After that, Escape Velocity is not an absolute.
It only applies to non-aerodynamic cylinders carrying tons of fuel.
Like an arrow fired straight up...no more oomph, no more elevation.
As long as the vehicle remains stable (via moveable ballast and gyroscopic balance), and propulsion continues to overcome gravity, she will continue on course and reach the desired height...even if said height is orbital, or beyond...
The first flight will be non-manned, radio controlled...the lift balloon can serve as a booster for signals from Earth.
After reaching the 100K elevation, she will return gently.
I see a large lake near the SpacePort which can serve as a landing area.
The basic premise is that Gaia Two solves the ongoing launch and re-entry problems which every effort has faced thus far.
Rocketeering is a loser long range...too limited...and we have no plasma/ion/nuke etc. sources available at this time.
People need hope now, not in the next lifetime.
My Father worked on early re-entry projects for AVCO.
The first time I saw a model nose cone being blasted by flame to test ablation, it became my mission to solve the re-entry problem...c. 1959.
Gaia Two has evolved from this mission.
I always hated the 'not in our lifetimes' outlook.
While the thinking was noble for the earliest pioneers, it has gone another lifetime with that way of thinking...and the big guys are still milking plans that have been on the drawing boards since those earliest pioneers.
The current situation is interesting, but leads nowhere.
All the investment in the world isn't going to change anything for a long time.
It takes a fresh outlook.
This outlook will provide financing for Gaia Two if the public is aware that such an option exists.
This will lead to further development of the concept via an upswell of interest from the man on the street.
Let's face it...nobody cares about Virgin Galactic right now...more hype just drags the whole idea down...is Branson offering free CDs yet?
If so, tell him to put them in recycled paper sleeves...not Petro Chem Jewel Cases.
Let's show 'em something that blows their minds...and expands possibilities...for very little money...and tons of free publicity RE the iconoclastic American Space Guy.
I can take people there without the vehicle.
When it appears, Folks will be prepared for a brighter future...not a cocktail party honoring celebs in space.
There is so much more that it will become boring quickly via email...but it's all doable for less than the lawyers are collecting while wrangling over the rules and regs.
You can't build a SpacePort without SpaceCraft...and none of the current participants can do more than hope to develop cheaper telecomsat launch capabiltites...which is exactly why all the participants are Telecom Bazillionaires.
If you want to see Humans launched from NM, in our lifetimes (I'm 61), this is the way to go.
Ask Whitehorn...somewhere in his worried heart he knows that I am right...if he's really in favor of all the EcoHype being pitched by the Boss, he knows Virgin Galactic is on hold for reasons other than Rutan's safety concerns.

It’s a little over a millennium since the first oil well went into production.
In the second half of the millennium we became totally dependent upon Petro Chem production, and doubled our population.
The two go hand in hand.
It's a done deal.
Our presence has altered Earth’s Environment.
We’ve made our mark.
Now, suddenly, we’re all running around in a panic because our mark is dark and ugly.
After all this time, pretending that 'progress' was more important than all that foolish Tree Hugger nonsense, we find ourselves up against the wall, acting surprised to be in such a mess, looking to those who made the mess for a way out.
DUH!!!
Our current situation began when the first of our ancestors ventured out of the cave and pissed along his trail.
For the longest time, we didn't have the ability to mark and establish our presence over anything more than our immediate surroundings.
But, we’ve always done as much marking as possible.
From sticks and stones to "The Big One".
From the dramatically firelit Caves of Altamira to the mindlessly ubiquitous flicker of the world wide web, as our territory widened, and Humans proliferated, our mark became exponentially greater, at unfathomable speed.
Then, it was now.

what to do...what to do...the sky is falling...what to do...?
Here’s a good place to start...
“not in our lifetimes”...a noble thought process/belief/attitude...
expressed by guys who had grown up during the Great Depression, fought in WWII, came home, made babies, and went to work creating a better world for those babies, “not in our lifetimes" was a wistful acceptance of harsh reality, with the most positive, forward thinking approach possible generously applied...period!
The feeling was of developing a brighter future.
If it took the rest of their lives to get the ball rolling, OK.
The grandbabies will reap the rewards.
“We’ll teach everything we know to our offspring, provide as much as possible, encourage them in the right direction, and our noble beliefitude will become legacy.”
This is what gave the “not in our lifetimers” the oomph to carry on.
This plan went seriously awry in the decade from 1957-1967.
There was just too muckin’ futch happening for young people to ignore the alternatives in favor of following the projected path.
Large numbers of the ‘not in our lifetimers’ found themselves on the outside looking in on what appeared to be the early stages of their babies turning the legacy into Sodom and Gomorrah with cars, sex, drugs, and rock and roll.
The kids were simply expediting the process...skipping a generation in the reward game.
Looking forward for the benefit of others wasn’t even on the radar of those immersed in the decade long revel.
They had become one with it all.
Everything’s gonna be alright.
